Fresh from the Oscar blush, I watched Crash again. Stylistically, the director ripped-off P.T. Anderson's 1999 film, Magnolia. It's the exact same style, from the build-up and climax to the denouement. They even have the all too familiar whip-around, displaying the characters' melting pot of emotions, with the Aimee Mann-ish song playing in the background.That aside, it's admittedly a brave film, in terms of subject matter. Crash deals head on with issues that plague the American society; mostly racial prejudices; blatantly showing stuff that other movies can only allude to for the sake of being PC, or to avoid ruffling feathers. The picture that I included in this entry is probably the most powerful image I've seen in this film. Watch Crash (if you haven't yet) to know what I'm talking about.
